What is Historical Thinking?

One of the main things I’ve learned about historical thinking in this course, is the ability to think objectively about what has happened in the past, and to not let my prior judgements to what I believe in or what I think has happened misconstrue what historical documents have recorded to be true. When you allow yourself to think objectively about any topic, it can hinder any future learning outcome, and I think that is very important when it comes to learning about history. There are many different interpretations about what has happened in historical times, those different interpretations can come from many things like culture, different social background, as well as a multitude of other things. A big thing I became aware of in doing my own research is that when conducting research of historical evidence, it often helps to go directly to the source, whether that be researching primary documents, or trying to contact people that come from cultures that have been directly impacted by events in the past.

This portfolio includes a wide-range of historical documents of the Pre-Confederate Canada era I have had the pleasure of interpreting. As well as these analysis’, there will be a section dedicated to my own personal interpretations of the Cariboo Gold Rush, where i have done extensive research on the historical significance that the gold rushes had on the province of British Columbia.
